Partnerships

GIS Education Center has formed strong partnerships with City and County organizations that deliver geospatial resources to the San Francisco Bay Area as well as community organizations that work in the neighborhoods and schools. We also partner with community colleges in the Bay Area and around the country that provide technical assistance and include the GIS Education Center in national grant activities.

Below is a list of partners with whom the GIS Education Center shares resources, skills, expertise, and information. This list reflects the expanding use of geospatial technologies across many areas, and we are pleased to be a part of this growing field of researchers, practitioners, and educators who promote and share this technology.


Local Orgs & Govt.

URBANlab at CCA

URBANlab is an institutional research and design collective composed of CCA faculty, students and professionals interested in advanced research and design that investigates the challenges and potentials of the urban environment in the 21st century. URBANlab supports the urban curriculum with multi-scaled projects on cities and landscapes that involve external local and global cooperative networks of professionals, community organizations, government agencies, and academic institutions. Global international research on cities and their environs will also be supported by an expanded field of travel programs and studios focused on the issues facing post-industrial world cities. http://ulab.cca.edu/


SF Green Map

gumby77The San Francisco Green Map celebrates successful ecological initiatives and increase awareness of environmental challenges facing San Francisco. Green Maps help residents discover ways to get involved with the urban environment and make greener lifestyle choices.

The GISEC is helping SF Green Map organization build upon its efforts by utilizing GIS technology and the help of CCSF students to update and maintain this wonderful resource. Visit http://www.sfgreenmap.org and download the maps.

 


San Francisco Department of Technology

Community Youth Mapping Project

Sponsored by the National Academy Foundation, San Francisco students use the summer to conduct an inventory of growth industries in the area to assess future workforce needs. NAF, in partnership with San Francisco Unified School District's Career Technical Education Office, City College of San Francisco's GIS Education Center and Matchbridge utilize Academy Educational Development's Community YouthMapping strategy to complete the mapping efforts.


BAR-GC

bargc logoThe BAR-GC was formed in April, 2002 to foster regional GIS coordination, identify and encourage data sharing opportunities and provide input to the California GIS Council (CGC). The GIS Education Center holds the Education seat in the panel. http://www.bargc.org/


 

BAAMA

BAAMAlogoBAAMA is a non-profit, professional organization that organizes bi-monthly educational forums, the annual California GIS Conference, and periodic technical tours on a broad range of geographic information systems (GIS) and automated mapping topics.  The GIS Education Center was featured in their Spring issue of 2010. Asian Inc.

Foundation for California Community Colleges

foundation logoOur mission is to benefit, support, and enhance the California Community College system.  As the official foundation of the California Community Colleges' Board of Governors and Chancellor's Office, the Foundation is a unique 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides effective services and innovative solutions for the largest higher education system in the nation. C3GIS

c3gisThe C3GIS (The California Community Colleges Geospatial Information Support) mission is to help colleges better serve the workforce and the economy of California by identifying and sharing resources, providing training and helping faculty at all levels to work to promote GST technology and workforce education. http://c3gis.net/

National Orgs.

GeoTech Center

geotechIn 2008, the National Science Foundation funded the National Geospatial Technology Center of Excellence to support two-year college geospatial technology programs. The GeoTech Center is a collaborative effort between colleges, universities, and industry to expand the geospatial workforce. The partners of the Center work together to provide professional development, teaching and curriculum resources, career pathways, and model core competencies for geospatial technicians. http://www.geotechcenter.org/

MentorLinks

ACFE7Advancing Technological Education program, supported by the National Science Foundation, is designed to help colleges develop or strengthen technician training programs in STEM fields through mentoring, professional development opportunities, and technical assistance. Read more.
