The GIS Education Center workshops are designed for students to learn and acquire skills based on focused GIS topics. Typically, our workshops are 9-15 hours in length and taught over three to five weeks. Our students tend to be working professionals, graduate students, and general enthusiasts in search of a short, focused, and thorough course which offers more support than a weekend crash course while avoiding the time commitment of a semester long college course.
Dedicated to Getting It Right
Our Approach
Our workshops give students the opportunity to understand the content, absorb the material and then demonstrate the learned skills. Workshops are 3 to 5 weeks in length and are a fraction of the cost of local weekend GIS courses. Our instructors design custom curriculum, use real-world data, and make the classroom atmosphere as fun and productive as possible. Our hope is that you leave our class feeling the experience outweighed the price.
Learning Pathway
Student Learning Pathway
If you are new to the GIS field or interested in gaining a good perspective we offer a free workshop, GIS in Action: A Theory & Practice, at the beginning of each semester. This workshop provides a brief overview of the GIS world and demonstrates the use and power that has made GIS one of the fastest growing fields. In addition, we discuss our program goals, workshops, and student pathways. Students will learn which workshops are right for them and have the chance to speak with the instructors individually. See our Learning Pathway.
Customized Workshops
Customized GIS Workshops
We believe in creating workshops which not only demonstrate and teach the software but also include real-world application of best practices and work-flows. The goal should be to understand the capabilities of GIS rather than memorizing buttons. In addition, we provide most of our students with a doggy-bag of resources when the class is finished. These resources will help you continue to learn and engage with GIS so as not to lose the skills you've learned. To learn more about what our workshops are like please visit the GISEC FAQ's and read GISEC Student FAQ's section.
