Online tools created by the SF Dept of Publich Health exist for residents, neighborhood communities and organizations to view and assess the health of their neighborhood. 


 


The Public Health Analysis using GIS (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=140 Itemid=150)  workshop will teach students where to find and use the online tools, data, and maps which can empower residents to improve their neighborhood. The latest battle between ATT   Verizon using maps (see graphic (images/stories/gisec/theresamisinterpretationforthat_big.jpg))
has brought to light the importance of maps in marketing. The public
generally regards maps as being accurate...until someone points out the
source of the data and scale issues that can distort reality. Maps have
a long history of being used for propaganda. These issues and ideas are
discussed in our Map Design   Data Visualization (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=104 Itemid=134)  workshop.
