Can the choices you make in daily life - how to get from place to place, where to shop, learn, relax and have fun, what to consume, when to reuse or recycle - make a difference? Absolutely.
San Francisco Green Map will help you to find eco-opportunities in your neighborhood and around our region. Using the international Green Map® System Icons, we map San Francisco's ecological and cultural resources and our city's progress toward becoming a healthy, sustainable urban environment.
SF Green Map is an ever-evolving project, including online maps, print maps, events and activities. SF Green Map is part of the Green Map Systems which aims to inform communities about their green resources. The Open Green Map project provides a web-based platform to create, manage, and update green maps - it even allows users to post new places, leave comments, pictures, and more. Visit the SF Open Green Map to Search & Contribute.
In addition, finding local green resources is also available on mobile platforms as well. Green Map Systems has two resources for the mobile world:
- A mobile website for all internet-based smart phones
- The Green Map iPhone App
Use the "What's Green Nearby?" and add contribute to the green map by collecting and submitting data on the spot.
Check out the mobile app from Open Green Map.
The GIS Education Center is proud to partner with local David Kupfer of sfgreenmap.org. For years SF Green Map has been carried on by numerous community volunteers and supporters. Recently, students from the GISEC program have given a helping hand to update, verify, and maintain the information and location of green resources in this map. We are hoping this effort will inspire folks to share this wonderful resource with others and contribute towards making the most complete green map for this area.
It's the commitment of the GISEC to continue to help support SF Green Map and further this project with student involvement.
